THE NUMISMATIC MUSEUM CONSERVATION LAB

Scope of the Conservation Lab

The Numismatics Museum Conservation Lab deals with the conservation of coins, medals, lead bullae, lead tokens, weights, talents, obeloi and semi-precious stones.

The main task of the Lab is the conservation of the Museum collections. Furthermore, other particular cases of artifact conservation from various Ephorates of the Greek Archaeological Service are taken care of.
Casts of coins or other objects from the Museum collections are often made to be sent to scholars or other Museums.

The staff takes care to ensure the appropriate environmental conditions and materials both in the storage and exhibition areas and to assist in the improvement and modernisation of the methodology applied in the Lab.

The activities of the Lab staff include the training of students as part of their practice education as well as the briefing of colleagues during educational leaves.
