The “Friends of the Numismatic Museum” and the French School of Athens in collaboration with the Numismatic Museum, the 4th Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities, the 25th Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities, the Archaeological Institute of Peloponnesian Studies, organize in Argos Scientific Meeting: in the Peloponnese.

The meeting will take place at the Barracks of Kapodistrias, which will soon house the Byzantine Museum of the city, from 26 to 29 May 2011. It will be the 6th Meeting in the cycle of scientific events established by the “Friends of the Numismatic Museum” by in 1996 and carry out jointly with other bodies. The purpose of these Meetings is to examine the currency in the wider geographical units of Greece over time, with the presentation of monetary material related to local archaeological activity, but also with more synthetic studies of the monetary data of these areas.

The thematic axes of the Meeting will concern Antiquity, Byzantium, Frankish rule, Venetian rule and Modern times and will refer to the mints, iconography, currency circulation in the Peloponnesian area, the circulation and geographical spread of the Peloponnesian history and of the place. 106 Greek and foreign delegates will participate, five general presentations will be made, 50 topics will be announced and 23 wall announcements will be posted.
