The Hall of the Hesperides presents the genesis of the coin, the method of its manufacture and the spread of its use in the ancient Greek world. In the 6th century BC, the Greek city-states began to issue their coins. The turtles of Aegina, the poloi of Corinth, the glaufkes of Athens were the first coins minted in Greece.
