Farewell to Anastasis P. Papaligouras
The Numismatic Museum bids farewell to Anastasis P. Papaligouras
The Numismatic Museum expresses its deepest sorrow at the passing of Anastasis P. Papaligouras, a major donor and distinguished friend of the Museum.
In 2019, Anastasis P. Papaligouras generously donated his significant numismatic collection to the Museum, comprising 3,745 coins from the Ancient Greek, Graeco-Roman, Roman, Late Roman, Byzantine, and Medieval periods. Selected coins from the collection are on display in a dedicated showcase within the Hall of Great Donors, offering the public a representative insight into this invaluable assemblage.
This donation constitutes an exceptional legacy for scientific research and the promotion of numismatic history, substantially enriching the Museum’s permanent collections.
The systematic scientific cataloguing of the donated coins continues by the Museum’s specialised staff, aiming for their full documentation and inclusion in international bibliography.
The Numismatic Museum extends its sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased.
