Farewell to Hélène Nicolet Pierre
She passed away on 14 April 2026 the distinguished numismatist Hélène Nicolet Pierre, a devoted friend and collaborator of the Numismatic Museum. These ties began and were forged most vividly through her close association with the late Manto Oikonomidou, for a long period Head of the Numismatic Museum.
Hélène Nicolet Pierre served as Conservateur en Chef at the Cabinet des Médailles of the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris.
Her studies, rich and wide ranging, focused and delved, among other subjects, into the silver coinage of ancient Athens, from the Archaic through the Hellenistic periods; into the minting and circulation of the Archaic and Classical staters of ancient Aegina; and she placed particular emphasis on the study and analysis of coin hoards containing these issues.
She also carried out in depth research on the pre coinage period, on early Asia Minor issues in electrum, as well as on other Asia Minor Hellenistic rulers and their monetary production.
