The Numismatic Museum presents a temporary exhibition titled “Aesthesis: A Reference to C.P. Cavafy”, featuring paintings by the artist George Kordis. The opening ceremony will take place on April 25, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. in the temporary exhibitions hall on the second floor of Iliou Melathron.

The exhibition constitutes a visual dialogue between prominent examples of Ancient, Roman, and Byzantine coinage and contemporary works by George Kordis. Through a fruitful engagement with the poet, the artist attempts not merely to illustrate, but to transmute the poetic body into an aesthetic locus of experience. This is a space where history is lived as an internal event concerning fate, power, and human dignity.

The aesthetic treatment of the dominant human figure draws its prototypes from Byzantine art, yet avoids stasis, achieving an expressiveness that evokes Hellenistic tradition. The visual composition functions as a theatrical stage, inviting the viewer, through hidden symbolisms, to delve deeper into the poetry of the Alexandrian.
