The two-year DO.RE.A. (Documenting & Digitising the Recent Acquisitions of the Numismatic Museum) project is co-financed by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and by the Federal Office of Culture (FOC) of the Swiss Federation. Following the call for applications, the Numismatic Museum was granted a total of 61.300 euros by the Swiss authorities. This funding will cover the expenses for upgrading the Museum’s laboratory equipment and for digitising its collections.
The main goal of the DO.RE.A. project is the digital documentation of the Numismatic Museum’s acquisitions during the last 15 years. Furthermore, it is to raise public awareness in relation to the protection and management of moveable cultural heritage, especially coins, medals, seal stones, weights, lead seals and other specimens kept at the museum.
The main work packages of the project comprise the recording and digitisation of the acquisitions, their conservation and the application of analytical techniques in order to examine their composition. In addition, an important work package comprises the dissemination of the project, including the updating of the museum’s website and social media, the organisation of an international one-day meeting, and the implementation of a temporary exhibition by the end of 2026.
