The Epigraphic and Numismatic Museum and the Friends of the Numismatic Museum are co-organizing an International Numismatic Conference on 20 and 21 April 2016, dedicated to the memory of the venerable mistress of Numismatic Science and Honorary Director of the Numismatic Museum Mantos Economides, who passed away in January 2015. The purpose of the two-day conference is to honor the exceptional and charismatic personality of the late Mantos, her multifaceted work and her great contribution to Numismatic science and the Archaeological Service.

The two-day conference will be attended by the most prestigious numismatists from around the world. The opening evening will take place on Wednesday, April 20, in the emblematic hall of the Hesperides of Ilios Melathros and will be accompanied by a musical event, where the original creation “MANTO” by the internationally renowned composer Phoebus Valachis will be presented for the first time, with lyrics by the poet Katerina Ioannidou and performed by Kalliopi Vetta, inspired by the unforgettable Manto Economidos. There will also be the unveiling of her bust, the work of the sculptor Aphrodite Liti, professor at the School of Fine Arts.

The symposium will continue the following day, Thursday, April 21, in the Lecture Hall of the Archaeological Society of Athens, of which Manto was a member and Vice President of the Board of Directors for many years.
