Virtual tour of the Donors’ Hall of the Numismatic Museum

In Ilios Melathron, in the dining room of the Schliemann house, the collections of the most important donors of the Numismatic Museum are exhibited.

Important personalities of Hellenism, princes from Russia, bankers and merchants from Alexandria and Marseilles, benefactors of the nation, politicians, scientists and people of letters and arts have not ceased to offer the Numismatic Museum coins, medals, precious stones and seals in response to the invitation of the motherland to save the ancestral heritage.

The creation of the free Greek state, a reference point for the spiritual pursuits of Hellenism everywhere, together with the genesis of the political ideology, known as the Great Idea, were decisive factors in the idea of establishing private numismatic collections that the Greeks of the diaspora deposited as donations from the period of the Ottonian kingdom to the Numismatic Museum.

The Donors’ Hall of the Numismatic Museum, which presents some of the most important donations, was captured in a 3D virtual tour, kindly sponsored by the photographers Mr. Xenikakis Ananiadis Michael and Mr. Xenikakis Konstantinos.
