These days are proposed by one or more members and by specialized organizations (UNESCO, UNICEF, FAO, etc.) and are ratified by the UN General Assembly.

As part of this year’s celebration, the Numismatic Museum presents from its collection a defaced silver (billon) tetradrachm of Alexandria during the reign of Emperor Commodus, which depicts the city’s harbor with a ship and its famous Lighthouse, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
